The crios (Irish woven belt) is a vibrant and enduring symbol of Irish heritage—once worn around the waist to secure clothing and offer warmth, and today treasured as a living expression of traditional craft.
In this hands-on class, we’ll be learning this traditional craft together—exploring the history of the crios and the simple weaving techniques that bring its bold stripes and rich colours to life. Using wool and time-honoured methods, you’ll create your own woven belt while gaining an appreciation for the patience, rhythm, and community spirit that have long accompanied this practice.
No experience is necessary—just a willingness to slow down, work with your hands, and become part of a shared creative tradition. Materials will be supplied! All ages welcome with a recommendation of 12 yrs and up.
