About the event

Bringing clarity to the ancient foggy Irish tune, The Foggy Dew.

This year’s harp workshop peers through the ancient fog of Ireland to learn the beautiful old Bunting-scribed air, The Foggy Dew. Sharlene will teach this tune with left-hand patterns as well as kind thoughts to harp technique and tone. Welcome the fog!

Canadian harpist and composer Sharlene Wallace is a musician flowing between and mingling Celtic, Classical, folk and contemporary genres and performing, recording and teaching on both pedal and lever (Celtic) harps.

Winner of the Lyon & Healy International Pop & Jazz Lever Harp Competition (USA) and the Dinan Concours d’Improvisation de Rencontres International de Harp Celtique (Brittany), she has given concerts and workshops across Canada, the United States, France and Italy.

Sharlene’s seven CDs express journeys of rhythm, spaciousness, the Canadian landscape, Celtic, Classical, South American and original music. Sharlene is also featured playing on Ron Korb's Grammy-nominated album Asia Beauty and on Frank Horvat's Centrediscs albums Music for Self-Isolation and What Goes Around. Sharlene and Frank Horvat are embarking on an environmental co-composition project, Trees. Listen, for Celtic harp and electronics based on the ancient Celtic Ogham script.

Sharlene has composed many pieces for Celtic harp and harp ensemble as well as commissioning numerous works for harp by Canadian composers. Last summer she gave presentations on her compositions for Celtic lever harp at the American Harp Society's National Conference.

As an educator, Sharlene has taught harp workshops across North America and annually for CAMMAC in Quebec and Island Mountain Arts in Wells, BC. She teaches both lever and pedal harps at York University and Wilfrid Laurier University.
